Statement
I use both found and bought wood to create a range of artistic sculptures, vases, Judaica, and practical home objects.
For my artistic pieces, I use found wood and let the material itself guide my work, keeping it as close to its natural state as possible. These sculptures are highly tactile and designed for people to both look at and touch.
I also use bought wood to craft functional items, including bread boards, tables, and candle boards, focusing on the clean utility and natural beauty of the timber.
Biography
Thea Breite is a wood artist with deep roots in professional visual storytelling. For over three decades, she worked as a photographer, picture editor, and newsroom leader, directing major projects.
Her career includes serving as Assistant Managing Editor for Visuals at The Providence Journal and Senior Multimedia Editor at The Boston Globe, where she led teams to 14 regional Emmy awards and directed Pulitzer Prize-winning breaking news coverage.
In addition to her personal photography, Breite is an avid pickleball player, and serves as a mentor for an incarcerated man enrolled in a college behind bars program.
